A position is available for a PhD student to study hydrodynamics and sediment transport, working with advisor Steve Henderson at Washington State University (Vancouver). Analysis of a unique, recently obtained “MFDop” dataset, the first to highly resolve wave bottom boundary layer profiles of velocity and sediment suspension on a natural beach, will provide opportunities to address fundamental questions in wave-induced sediment transport. Work will likely also make use of existing numerical models, and will likely be conducted in collaboration with scientists Greg Wilson (Oregon State University) and Alex Hay (Dalhousie University). On admission in fall 2025, ideal candidates will have a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, or other quantitative science.
